CTO Names Guyana Host of 2026 State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC)

BARBADOS (February 9, 2026) – The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has selected Guyana to host its flagship State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) in October 2026 — marking the first time the country will stage the conference since its inception.

Scheduled for Georgetown, October 5–9, 2026, the prestigious regional gathering brings together hundreds of Caribbean tourism leaders, international delegates, policymakers, youth representatives, journalists and industry stakeholders. SOTIC serves as CTO’s principal forum for examining critical issues, sharing innovation and shaping the future direction of Caribbean tourism.

Susan Rodrigues, Guyana’s Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, described the selection as a milestone reflecting growing regional confidence in Guyana’s tourism leadership and its expanding role in regional dialogue.

“This conference is CTO’s premier gathering for Caribbean tourism leaders and attracts hundreds of regional and international delegates, positioning Guyana as a major player in the development of MICE tourism — a specialized, high-value segment of business travel focused on Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions,” Rodrigues said.

Hosting SOTIC underscores Guyana’s rapid emergence as a dynamic tourism destination, supported by investments in infrastructure, sustainability and cultural offerings. The decision follows the most recent edition of the conference in Barbados, held under the theme “Reimagining Caribbean Tourism: Research, Relevance and the Road Ahead.”

CTO Secretary-General and CEO Dona Regis-Prosper has emphasized the organization’s focus on community-centered tourism experiences under its 2026 theme, One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences, citing Guyana as a destination that exemplifies these priorities. She noted the region’s resilience and shared commitment to building an inclusive, future-ready tourism sector — themes expected to feature prominently during the Guyana-hosted conference.

“This event positions Guyana to showcase its unique blend of ecotourism, adventure, cultural heritage and business facilities to a global audience, further elevating its profile within the Caribbean and beyond,” Regis-Prosper added.

Details on registration, programming and venue will be announced through official CTO and Guyana Tourism Authority channels as planning advances.

‘One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences’ Takes Center Stage at Travel & Adventure Show

WASHINGTON (Jan. 20, 2026) — Leveraging its 2026 regional theme, “One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences,” the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) underscored a growing shift toward authentic, personalized travel during a high-profile weekend at the 2026 Travel & Adventure Show.

Held Jan. 17–18 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the event served as a strategic platform for CTO to demonstrate how its unified regional vision translates into diverse, differentiated traveler experiences.

During her Sunday presentation, “Authentic Caribbean Experiences for Every Traveler,” CTO Secretary-General and CEO Dona Regis-Prosper told attendees that the Caribbean is a “mosaic” of unique destinations rather than a single, monolithic experience. She highlighted how destinations are increasingly curating tailored pathways for niche markets, including eco-adventure, wellness and culinary exploration.

The Sunday session followed a robust opening day on Saturday, when Regis-Prosper moderated the panel “Caribbean Luxury Reimagined.” The discussion explored the evolution of aspirational luxury and featured panelists Ricardo Henry, business development officer for the Jamaica Tourist Board, and Amy Cucina, regional sales and marketing manager with Norwegian Cruise Line.

The Saturday panel emphasized that modern luxury is deeply personal. Sharing a personal anecdote from her native St. Lucia, Regis-Prosper recalled a birthday surprise at a luxury resort where a simple request for a childhood dish resulted in an off-menu creation.

“For us in the Caribbean, luxury is taken to another level,” Regis-Prosper said, noting that meaningful moments and genuine connections define the premium experience.

Other key updates from the panel included:

• Jamaica’s progress: Henry highlighted the island’s diverse luxury offerings, ranging from five-star “shabby chic” to white-glove service, along with new hotel developments and the island’s first casino.

• Cruise innovation: Cucina spotlighted Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Haven” “ship-within-a-ship” luxury enclave and the upcoming 2027 launch of Norwegian Aura.

Throughout the show, the Secretary-General positioned the “One Caribbean” message as a reflection of the region’s competitive advantage in an increasingly complex global environment.

“When the Caribbean is experienced as a unified region, our collective potential becomes truly limitless,” she said. “As we step into 2026, we enter a new chapter defined by opportunity and by the bold, forward-looking choices we will make together.”

She reaffirmed the region’s commitment to safety and innovation: “The world continues to look to the Caribbean with renewed interest. Together, we will show what is possible.”

The Travel & Adventure Show series moves to New York this weekend at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Caribbean Tourism and Cruise Leaders Align on Resilience, Recovery and Shared Growth

MIAMI (December 20, 2025) – Amid the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa in October this year, Caribbean tourism ministers, directors and executives gathered aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas this month for an “Iconic Summit” hosted during the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) second annual Caribbean Weekend in Miami, to discuss the cruise industry’s pivotal role in recovery and long-term resilience and growth.

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley detailed his company’s rapid response to the crisis, including delivering more than 100 pallets of essential supplies, generators, food and water to Jamaica’s port of Falmouth, working with partners to support distribution in hard-hit areas, and helping to provide meals in affected communities. In a candid discussion with CTO Secretary-General & CEO Dona Regis-Prosper, Bayley said the company sees itself as part of the Caribbean community: “I think over the years we’ve always tried to support the Caribbean communities. Especially in times of crisis, we answer the phone, and we try our best.”

CTO Chairman Ian Gooding-Edghill, Barbados’ Minister of Tourism and International Transport, thanked Royal Caribbean and his regional partners for their compassion and generosity in supporting Jamaica and Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

He also stressed the importance of building bridges between governments and the private sector, between countries and industries, and between challenges and shared opportunities. “The future of Caribbean tourism depends on our ability to reimagine together — to innovate, to collaborate and to believe in the boundless potential of our region,” he said, emphasizing data-driven policy, stronger connectivity and growth that prioritizes local communities.

Bayley called for “master planning” to ensure destinations can manage sustainable tourism development. He highlighted opportunities for cruise lines and destinations to collaborate and expand pathways to employment for Caribbean youth, including meeting with Caribbean labor ministers and industry leaders to address long-standing barriers to workforce participation. In addition, he elaborated on Royal Caribbean Group’s focus on forward-thinking sustainability initiatives such as environmental technologies, shore power systems, and resilient port development.

As the region welcomed millions of cruise visitors in 2025 despite setbacks, the summit delivered a clear message: with storms growing fiercer and more frequent, the Caribbean’s tourism engine remains vital to economies and jobs — and resilience must be built into every plan.

The event also featured cultural touches, including a Wizard of Oz performance and an appearance by the ship’s “Chief Dog Officer,” Rover, but the tone remained purposeful — including a call for all hands-on deck, and a reminder that tourism is everyone’s business.
